This is the SAME engine, I promise!
There are many satisfying aspects of car valeting/detailing (and also some NOT so satisfying aspects), and for me, towards the top of the list is engine bay cleaning. Granted, this is an area of the car you won’t see very often, unless your car is so unreliable that you know your AA patrolman on an almost intimate basis, but it’s still an area that shouldn’t be left neglected. A clean engine bay can really help to transform and rejuvenate your car, especially if you’re looking to sell it.
What good is a nice, sparkly car if you lift up the the bonnet and find the engine bay has had no attention since the car rolled off the production line? Though it shouldn’t be the main reason for walking away, it may well be a factor, Strangely, though, I recently found myself with a customer that was on the other end of the transaction. She had recently bought a 2006 Honda CR-V, quickly found the engine bay was neglected, and by the looks of it, had never seen any form of detergent in its life.
Having previously owned another CR-V, she was dismayed by the condition of this engine bay, so seeked out my services to improve matters. Despite the engine bay looking very sorry for itself, harsh chemicals were not required; it was a healthy dollop of all purpose cleaner (APC), plenty of elbow grease and then finished with a dressing to make it look showroom fresh again. I don’t think I need to say much more at this point as I think the results speak for themselsves, no?
